Hey everyone, I see a ton of people not knowing how they can increase their conversions, lower their costs and scale results.
So I want to go back to the fundamentals for everyone.
No opinions here. Only direct info from Facebook.
That way we can all understand the true way Facebook determines who wins with Facebook ads and who doesn't.
Imagine you have an ad approved and launched... But before it is delivered to anyone, the ad now has to compete for a placement against another advertiser in order for it to be shown.
To do this...
Facebook holds an ad auction to determine which ad will be shown to a user.
The way Facebook determines this is by using a formula that consists of three parts...
1. Advertiser Bid
Facebook first takes into account what you're willing to pay to get a result based on your optimization goal.
Most of us use daily budgets so it will instead take your past estimated results based on your account history and determine it for you.
2. Estimated Auction Rate
Facebook then will calculate how many potential impressions it can show and how likely someone is for someone to convert based on your ads optimization goal.
This typically takes into account the active users in your audience, what times they are on, what time they are most likely to convert, and how large your audience is, etc.
3. Ad Quality
This one is by far the most important one. (And that's coming from Facebook & ME)
It single-handedly can allow you to break out from the crowd and beat your competition every time in an auction.
Facebook specifically states that up to 50% of the total weighted score that determines if you'll win an auction is to do with your ad creative.
So here's a trick for you...
As long as your audience size is over 1M+ people then you automatically are going to have a higher percentage added to your weighted score and in some cases up to 25% added to your weighted score since Facebook now has more opportunities to serve your ad.
Combine that with a stellar creative and you're already up to nearly 75% of the weighted score which is going to win you more bids then almost all of your competitors.
Now...
In order to determine, what Facebook sees as stellar ad quality is a different beast all together - you have to know what they are looking for in terms of more "value added".
The first is making sure you have more than 1 creative in your campaign.
Facebook prefers multiple creatives so it can learn and show the best creative to the right audience.
The second is making sure your content is mobile optimized.
Facebook wants videos to be short, fast, and optimized for no sound. That means you need text in your videos or you need to clearly demonstrate what it is you're selling.
The third is ensuring the ad brings more value than your competitor that means a lower price, better offer, discounts, free shipping, etc.
The more value, the more Facebook will deliver your ad over your competitors.
At the end of the day, it's the combination of budget, targeting and great creative that wins.
Winning an auction takes more than money and targeting, it takes great, engaging creative executions with a great offer.
